Values education at St. George’s
Aligned with more than 55 Globducate schools worldwide, at St George’s British International School we are committed to building a fairer, more responsible, egalitarian and sustainable society. For this reason, values education is a priority in our educational programme.
As the unique British and International School in Biscay we are committed to the excellence of our students in the broadest sense of the word. We are convinced that every pupil has the potential to make this world a better place, so, as well as providing them with knowledge through a comprehensive curriculum, we equip them with the necessary mechanisms and tools to become ethical, empathetic, responsible, caring, critical, respectful and committed to their local and global environment.
The House System
The House system is a common feature of the British education system and a tool for values education, helping to build community spirit, develop a sense of identity and belonging, and celebrating achievements, both their own and those of others. It is also an opportunity to develop leadership skills and an ideal vehicle for connecting pupils of all ages, giving them the chance to get to know each other outside the traditional classroom environment, generating connections and bonds between pupils of different ages.
At St. George’s British International School students are linked to the same House through all their school life, so the feeling of belonging to the House is deeply rooted. Students can earn House points for good behaviour, community service or for participating in team activities, which will be passed on to all students linked to that House.
The Houses in St. George's are Dragons, Lions, Unicorns and Phoenixes. Each one of them is linked to a charity, thus creating four working teams focused on the following areas, below with the aim of raising awareness of their work amongst the pupils, and also organising collections to provide them with the resources they need throughout the school year, thus giving life to the charity campaign 4 Houses, 4 Causes.
- Help for the Environment: through school projects such as the construction of acoustic panels, various recycling and re-use campaigns, etc.
- Local Aid: Biscay Food Bank
- Emergency Aid: Aldeas Infantiles
- Help in the fight against Cancer or Rare Diseases: Fundación Aladina
Sponsorships programme
At St. George’s British International School we believe that sport is a priority for holistic education. It improves school performance and the growth of young people, promotes healthy lifestyle habits, aids socialisation and encourages fundamental values and behaviours such as teamwork, respect, healthy competition and companionship.
We are very proud to have a sports sponsorship programme that reinforces both our vision of global values education and our commitment to sport as a cornerstone in the integral development of children.
