Opportunities for studying abroad
St. George’s students are able to study for an academic year at Stonar School in England, one of our BIS schools. Stonar is a leading boarding school for boys and girls, renowned for its outstanding pastoral care and excellent teaching. By taking part in an exchange students grow in confidence, improve their English and become globally minded as they broaden their horizons and meet new friends.
At Stonar, more than 75 per cent of students, boarders and day pupils, are British, offering an authentic British boarding school experience with genuine language immersion, following the same curriculum, sports and activities as classmates. In the cosy, comfortable boarding house, students share with either other English native speakers or those who speak a different first language – to encourage everyone to speak in English.
Out of school lesson times, students benefit from superb facilities for the arts, sports and horse riding and can take advantage of a wide range of visits and excursions. Stonar’s short-stay programmes offer genuine immersion in a traditional British boarding school for a full year – or if preferred, one or two terms, or half a term.
A summer abroad
GBIS schools have the opportunity to participate in a number of different holiday camps in the Canada and Andorra. The underlying vision for any of these short courses away from home is to give our students, and those from other schools, the opportunity to be independent, to meet new friends from different countries and cultures, and to develop new skills and competencies. A holiday camp is the perfect environment to develop those linguistic skills, make new friends, gain independence and learn about the world around them.
Blyth Academy Summer School
Students aged 14 to 18 (Grades 9 to 12) can take a month-long course with Blyth Academy, our group of schools in Ontario, Canada. Programmes are offered in-person and virtually, and learning is highly personalised and experiential. A wide range of subjects is available, including maths, sciences, English, French and the humanities. Sessions are led by experienced Blyth Academy teachers and may include discussions and collaborative group work – through breakout rooms if a course is offered online. Assessment includes assignments and final exams, and all classes are recorded and available for students to reference when preparing work.
