St. George's British International School FAQ's

St. George's British International School is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. We offer extracurricular activities in the afternoon, between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm. 

At St. George's we have an average of 20 students per class, which allows for a personalised and individualised education. 

85 per cent of our students are Spanish and 15 per cent are from other countries. Our student body is mainly European, but we also have students from Asia, Africa, North America and South America. We currently have 18 different nationalities represented at the school.

The British education system, which follows the English National Curriculum.

All teachers who teach the English National Curriculum are qualified British teachers, with the exception of some language teachers who are native speakers, such as the Spanish, French or Basque teachers.

Generally speaking, our students speak both English and Spanish in the playground. Therefore, those children who enter the school with little or no knowledge of either languages learn them very quickly and easily.

All students at St. George's study Spanish from Reception. Spanish students are required to take a minimum number of Spanish classes per week, the frequency and number varying according to age and the academic year they are in, always complying with the requirements for correct accreditation. 

At St. George's British International School we also teach Basque and French, as well as English and Spanish. We also offer optional Mandarin Chinese classes.

As an international school, we introduce our students to different religions and cultures and teach them moral values based on universal human values. We learn about all the religions of the world and share with our school community the celebrations linked to these religions. At Christmas we have different Christian activities, such as plays and carol concerts.

A wide range of sporting activities are available at the school, including football, basketball, roller skating, handball, hockey, gymnastics and athletics.

It depends on the age of the students. As a general rule, no homework is set in Early Years, but students are expected to take reading books home to read with their parents. In the Key Stage 1 and 2, from Year 3 upwards, students use a homework diary to record any homework they need to remember to do. Depending on their age, they are expected to do between one and a half hours of homework a week in Year 3, up to half an hour a day plus written work at the weekend in Year 6. In addition to the above, at St. George's British International School students are encouraged to read in both English and Spanish. 

Our students will take the UK syllabus examinations: IGCSE and A Level, as well as the Spanish University entrance exams (commonly known as “Selectividad”).

Students who complete their education at St. George's have access to universities all over the world, including such prestigious universities as Berkeley, Imperial College and LSE, among others. Other prestigious universities such as Durham, St Andrew's, Edinburgh, York and many colleges belonging to the University of London are also available if they wish. 

Some students prefer to attend a Spanish university (Universidad del País Vasco, Deusto, Universidad de Navarra, Complutense, Carlos III, , Deusto...) and many others may choose to continue their higher education in other parts of the world, such as the USA.

Yes, the school will look at each student’s particular situation and facilitate the student's incorporation into the school for the period they need.

At St. George's it is the students themselves who welcome newcomers. In addition, the teachers make sure that there are always "buddies" in the classrooms to help new students when they arrive at the school.

The first step in the admissions process is to submit an application form which can be obtained from our website or by contacting the Admissions Department. 

Students should bring reports/notes from their home schools and, in some cases, placement tests will be carried out to assess the student's actual level, although in no case will this be an eliminatory test but merely informative. 

We accept children who do not speak English or who have a basic level. The school will assess each individual situation and in some cases a Language Support Service may be offered at an additional cost to help the student catch up with the school. 

 Yes, any student can enrol at St. George's as long as there is space in the class they are applying for. If their English level is not at the level of your course, the school will provide a Language Support Service at an additional cost. 

Our students will be able to gain access to universities around the world on the basis of their Secondary and Sixth Form results.

At the end of Year 11 our students sit the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education), the official tests in the British Secondary curriculum. At the end of Year 13 (equivalent the Spanish Bachillerato) they sit the A-Level (Advanced Level) examinations. The results of both tests are key to university entrance. 

Access to a Spanish university (public or private) on completion of studies at St. George's British International School is guaranteed on equal terms with students from Spanish schools, and the school will help them with the process and the steps to follow.
