Early years education at St. George's

At St. George's early years education is made up of Pre-Nursery Class, Nursery Class and Reception Class. Known as the Early Years Foundation Stage, these first years of education are vital to a child’s future success. Children are developing in many different ways: emotionally, physically, socially and cognitively. As children begin to adapt to school life they need to feel safe, nurtured and loved, in a warm and familiar environment.

At this age children are getting to grips with the world around them. We focus on full immersion in the English language and the development of emotional intelligence through creative play. Music classes help children to refine their motor skills, and from Reception Class onwards, Spanish is introduced into the classroom.

At this stage children are working on the following skills:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

The home-school connection

We believe that a close, open and positive home-school relationship is essential if children are to flourish. We work closely with parents to create a caring and family-friendly environment. Our students thrive in a home-from-home setting, surrounded by a great team of experienced professionals who seek to cultivate a passion for learning. Each class can be supported by a teaching assistant along with the class teacher, to make sure that each child gets the attention they need.

A positive, caring, happy and stimulating educational experience at this stage ensures that even our very youngest pupils look forward to Monday mornings!
