Welcome to St. George's British International School
St. George's British International School is a private school in Bilbao. A founding member of Globeducate British International Schools, at St. George’s we prepare our students for the world of tomorrow, today. We offer a multilingual education from the age of two, combining innovative methodologies and personalised attention to ensure that every one of our students reaches their full potential. Our students develop into well-rounded, socially responsible citizens with respect for one another. Music, sport, creative arts and technology form an integral part of the curriculum.
A progressive adaption to the English National Curriculum
At present our students follow the English National Curriculum from Pre-Nursery Class to Year 10 before switching over to the Spanish system. We will be gradually expanding the British curriculum year by year until the entire school cohort is following this curriculum, eventually studying for IGCSE and A-Level exams. This gradual transition will be completed by 2025.
Academic excellence since 1956
The school was founded in 1956 by John Augustin Franks, a pioneer and entrepreneur who arrived in Bilbao from Great Britain in 1930, and who gained an excellent reputation as an educator and teacher of English. His vision for the school was based on three simple objectives; to promote academic excellence, to facilitate fluency in English and to provide a solid foundation in the essential values for life, all the way from Early Years to Sixth Form. These objectives hold fast today; at St. George’s, English is the principal language for teaching and learning and we will soon offer the prestigious English National Curriculum from early years until graduation from secondary school.

We offer a British education with a global perspective for students aged two to 18, with full immersion in English from the first day of school.
