St. George’s British International School completes its transition to a fully-fledged British school with its first Sixth Form cohort

  • News

St. George's celebrates its first Sixth Form graduating class, shaping young leaders with global vision and international spirit.

St. George's British International School begins this academic year with a historic milestone: its first Sixth Form cohort, the British equivalent of Bachillerato in the Spanish education system. With this step, the school becomes the first and only school in Vizcaya to offer the prestigious British education system at all stages, from two years old to university preparation. This transition, which began in 2021, culminates this academic year with the first A-Level graduates, a programme also opens to students from other education systems who are looking for a demanding international pathway with direct access to prestigious universities around the world.

A British Baccalaureate with global reach

St. George's Sixth Form programme is based on A-Levels, the most internationally recognised British academic qualifications, equivalent to the Spanish Baccalaureate. A-Levels, which are taken over two years, are characterised by their high level of specialisation, allowing students to choose from a range of subjects to delve deeper into the areas that most interest them or best align with their professional goals, and by their flexibility and personalisation, as each pathway is tailored to the needs, interests and academic aspirations of each student. Added to this is their international prestige, as the assessments are external and independent, guaranteeing global academic standards and the comparability of results with those of students in the British system, both inside and outside the United Kingdom.

Furthermore, A-Levels open the doors not only to leading British universities, but also to prestigious international and Spanish institutions, both public and private, on an equal footing with those who have studied in the national education system.

Learning beyond the classroom

In addition to their rigorous academic programme, Sixth Form students enjoy a comprehensive education that enhances essential skills for their future, such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ): an independent research project that allows each student to delve deeper into a topic of their choice and develop key skills such as critical thinking, time management, academic writing and communication. The EPQ is highly valued by international universities as it reflects a passion for independent learning.

They also have access to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, an internationally recognised award that encourages students to push their limits, take on personal challenges, collaborate on social projects and develop leadership, resilience and community engagement, as well as educational trips and excursions outside the classroom that reinforce the curriculum and enrich students' personal and social development.

Finally, as a member school of Globeducate, St. George's students have access to global events and activities with the group's more than 65 schools around the world that foster creativity, debate, analytical thinking, and artistic, sporting and communication skills.

Personalised guidance and leadership opportunities

The academic team at St. George's supports each student with individualised guidance to choose the right academic path, manage the university application process and plan their professional future. In addition, the school encourages students to actively participate in school life through leadership opportunities, such as the Student Council or Head Students, roles that allow them to represent their peers, lead projects and develop key skills such as public speaking, teamwork and collaboration.

A leading international school in Vizcaya

With the addition of Sixth Form, St. George's British International School consolidates its position as an international educational benchmark in Vizcaya. Its model, based on academic excellence, personalisation and global outreach, prepares students not only to enter prestigious universities, but also to successfully face the personal and professional challenges of an increasingly competitive and connected world.
