Sharing synergies to strengthen the school community

  • Institutions

The PTAs of O Castro and St. George's strengthen the school community by sharing experiences, collaboration, and new ideas that drive participation and educational growth.

Being part of a group of schools such as Globeducate British International Schools means becoming part of an educational community that transcends the boundaries of each campus. A community in constant growth and innovation, which allows for the sharing of resources, methodologies and experiences to enrich teaching and strengthen academic quality. It also offers access to joint programmes, teacher training, innovative infrastructure and a support network that promotes the comprehensive development of each student.

These advantages go far beyond the strictly academic, as demonstrated by today's meeting between representatives of the PTAs (Parent and Teacher Associations) of O Castro and St. George's British International Schools. In their first online meeting, they explored new avenues of collaboration between the educational communities of Vigo and Bilbao.

The meeting proved particularly fruitful: the experience and know-how of the long-established PTA in O Castro was received with great interest by the members of St. George's. At the same time, the fresh ideas of the newly created association at the Bilbao school offered the Vigo PTA the opportunity to rethink some of its actions from a new perspective.

Representatives of the O Castro PTA, Gael González and Berta Martín: "It was very enriching for us to share our experience with St. George's. We have been working for years on initiatives that strengthen the relationship between families and the school, and seeing how our practices can inspire others motivates us to continue growing.”

Representative of the St. George's PTA; Sofía Carvalho, Chair/President and Marissa Sandoval, Deputy Chair/Vice President: ’The meeting allowed us to learn from O Castro's experience and, at the same time, contribute our fresh ideas as a newly created association. We feel that together we can build projects with a real impact on our educational communities."

PTA tasks

The tasks and responsibilities of a PTA are many and fundamental to building a strong, united and committed community. From establishing links with charities to organising events that involve different year groups and the wider community. Regular meetings and the work of class representatives offer families a space for participation, where parents feel heard and can learn first-hand what measures are being taken. When faced with any challenge, collaboration with the PTA facilitates understanding of the situation and enables an effective response.

In short, parent-teacher associations play a crucial role in strengthening the school community. To achieve this, it is necessary to invest time and effort in clearly defining their objectives and scope, always ensuring transparency in communication. Both St. George's and O Castro have recently embarked on this path, aware that having an active PTA provides great support in facing the challenges that may arise and, at the same time, enriches the learning and development opportunities for students.
