Join the first cohort of Sixth Form students at St. George's British International School. Learn about what the programme involves and how we’re rolling it out at our school.
This year is particularly special at St. George's British International School. For the first time, we have opened the doors to our Sixth Form programme, a milestone that marks the beginning of a new educational stage for our students. This programme, designed for students aged 16 to 18, includes Year 12 and Year 13 courses, culminating in the prestigious A-Level exams, the ideal stepping stone to accessing the best universities both in Spain and internationally.
What is Sixth Form and who is it for?
Sixth Form is the British equivalent of the Spanish Bachillerato, although its educational approach is fundamentally different. It is aimed at students who have completed their IGCSE exams and wish to prepare academically and personally for the next step in their educational journey: university.
Our students can choose to study between three and four A-Level subjects, supplemented with two Spanish PCE subjects to obtain the Bachillerato diploma through validation with UNED. This means that doors are opened not only to UK and European universities but also to Spanish public and private universities, on an equal footing with students from local educational systems.

Sixth Form in Bilbao: Beyond the Classroom at St. George's
At St. George's, we ensure our students are fully prepared to make the most of this stage of their education. Our robust pastoral programme provides emotional support and personalised guidance, helping students overcome the challenges unique to this stage. Additionally, we offer a wide range of excursions and residential activities that complement the curriculum and broaden their horizons.
From leadership workshops to sporting and musical opportunities, students have access to experiences designed to promote their overall development. These activities not only enrich their CV but also help them discover and pursue their passions.
Enrichment through the Duke of Edinburgh Award
A highlight of our programme is participation in the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE). Founded in 1956 by Prince Phillip, this international programme encourages personal growth, leadership, and community service. At St. George's, we invite our students to take on challenges in the Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories.
The DofE is structured around four components:
- Volunteering: Developing a sense of social responsibility through community activities.
- Physical activity: Improving personal health and well-being.
- Skills: Learning and refining new skills.
